Another Day In Our Life

It's just another day. What makes it a little bit different is because it's in Bali. Where prayers and offerings are a simple daily rituals, although it might seems elaborate - something that makes most of us overwhelmed. But not for balinese.

It Takes Whatever It Takes

24hrs a day  sometimes seems never enough, while we had to chase the time to finish the work of making beautiful set for an event. We have to steal a few moment just for taking a break, because the work is enormous, and the guest cannot be left waiting. When you think decorating is a fancy job; think again.

A Small Wedding

Small doesn't mean you can't do elaborate thing. It's, in fact, a chance to pay attention in details.

Here's an example of a simple wedding with extra detail in flowers. With just a simple screen as a background, the extra large flower arrangement and its extension that hugs the sofa, it upscales the whole look. The all-white with a touch of  gold gives height and more flair.

Garlands

Flower garland can make things look beautiful. Just add garland anywhere, and presto!  It can soften a tough look, and in this case, it can tame even the wildest lion, almost literally.

Not A Very Ordinary Shower

Shower ceremony takes a very important role in Indonesian culture. Water is consider as a purifier for life, and in every stage of life, from birth to death, this ritual takes place. The 7th month pregnancy is one of those, so a shower ceremony is held at this stage, and a client asked us to decorate the event. 

The mother-to-be requested that the flowers to be yellow.  Easy-peasy.  We gathered all kind of yellow flowers we could find: golden shower, cymbidium, moth and mokara orchid, roses, sunflower, tulips, and some exotic plants like solanum mammosum, beehive flower, calathea and so forth. Strings of jasmine garlands is a must, done. But she asked us not to do the flowers like a wedding. So we come up with this asymmetrical arrangement, a rather wild and lush one. What do you think?

A Real Wedding in A Village

Watched the groom parade on their way to pick up the bride, and it was fabulous. Colorful dress and costumes, dance and music. I have no clue about things in this wedding, but what a festivity! I need to learn more about the culture of Jambi.

The Klungkung Market II

Not expecting much to see at first, but visiting Klungkung Market  this time taught me a little more about things.

 So I went to this  little shop in the corner, filled with assortment of fabrics; hand-woven and beautiful. There is Kain endek, Kain songket, and one new thing I've never heard before. Kain Bebali. I did a little research, and it turns out that kain bebali means all sort of textile that is made and used for ceremonial purposes. Kain means cloth, and bebali means ceremony. 

There I saw this pile of rich red fabric, woven with old indian patterns, and that is one example of kain bebali,  called Kain Cepuk. Made especially in Nusa Penida area, this kind of textile is used for the Panca Yadnya rituals, ( which includes the ceremonies to celebrate the circle of life - from the pregnancy till cremation ). Beautiful in all aspects:  in color, in pattern, and in meaning.

Blue For The Baby Boy

Pardon me for being away for too long.. there are things to be done and I haven't got any decent things to share. But here are some flowers we've done for a family who were about to celebrate the 'aqiqah' of the newborn baby boy, hence the white and blue theme.
