It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas

I've been doing my part  decorating some biggest malls in Jakarta, the most elaborate parties in town in the best hotels and other venues. But decorating small places is still my most favourite. Like making christmas decoration for this small concept store - The Living Shoppe - in Magelang-Central Java. I have to do everything on my own.. cutting, arranging and installing all by myself. Creating things, just the way I like it :-)

Making garlands from fabric scraps, cloth hanger and one velvet poinsettia. All I have to do is to knot the scraps on the cloth hanger, tuck the poinsettia on top, and voilà!

Another one is this flying branches. I spray-painted the branches in white, added dried baby's breath-  a left over from previous wedding decor, some big bows and few christmas ornaments. a light country-ish christmas, I might say :-) Hope y'all like it.

Janur and Javanese Style, A Story of Endless Inspiration

Janur, the premature coco leaf, has a long history in Indonesian art and culture. Javanese, especially, has mastered in this field, and no event is complete without this craft work. Having Javanese blood running in my vein, I got this special romantic feeling upon this matter. And oh how I love to put that little golden accessories and woven strands of jasmines as the flower ornament.

A Street of Goodies

This street in Ubud is only for serious shoppers! You'll be crazy buying this and that, because you'll find all that you need and you don't but suddenly feel like needing it. In every side and every corner of the street, it's full of knick knacks, crafts and serious art and all beautiful things that you need to decorate your house.  If you don't believe me, just wait till you see it for yourself! 

Tiny Shop Full of Pinocchio

Visiting this little shop is like entering uncle Gepetto's workshop. Wherever you turn your head, you'll see Pinocchio. Assembled here, stacked there, hung or wrapped, ready to be shipped round the globe. It's like you're back to your childhood and entering the fantasy world once again. A moment well treasured.

Delightful Delicate

Went to an exhibition and saw these two ladies, deeply concentrated working, in a high pace over a complicated work of threads. They said it;s a craft from Koto Gadang, West Sumatra. The call it Sulam Kapalo Peniti ( pin head embroidery ) and Renda Bangku ( stool lace ).  Quite funny when you hear it, no? But when you see it,  you can do nothing but hold your breath. Two old ladies can produce such beautiful and intricate work.

I tried to search the story behind sulam kapalo peniti and renda bangku, but I can't find much. Perhaps you could help.
